European cup 4th round

Ightham Pc
The Golding Hop

ABC travelled down to Kent in heavy rain and then snow and by the time we had got there the roads where beginning to turn to slush.
We got to the pub and checked out the piste, covered in snow which collected on your boule and made snowballs.. As the rain really started most of the snow disappeared.

First round two triples, both teams won one each Score 1 -1

Second round three doubles we lost two won one. Score 3 - 2

Third round two doubles we needed to win both games
Jeff, Ian and Ingrid won their game 13 - 8. Score 3 - 3
David, Hazel and Tony played needed to win.
score 12 - 12, Hazel put her boule just by the cosh, they point 4 boule and can't beat it...
Their captain takes the shot to clear the boule but just misses, Hazels boule wobbles, he shoots again and missed...Last game to us 13 - 12, giving us the match with a score of 4 - 3.

Ightham PC where a really friendly team, providing us with soup during the morning, and at the end of the match we all had Shepherds pie, mash potatoes and beans.

From all of our team we would like to send our thanks to Ightham PC

We are now ready for the next round which will be at home during January
ABC Team Jeff, Ian, Ingrid, Tony, Hazel and David.

European Cup 3rd round.

Amities Boules Club team traveled down to Hampshire Rose on Saturday morning for the 3rd round of the European cup.
The weather was terrible with heavy rain followed by showers followed by heavy rain.
Our two triples teams manage to break even with one game each.
Then followed the three doubles games which we won all three, this gave us a 4 - 1 win with two games to play. It was decided that we each would take one game giving us the match score of
5 - 2.
We are now through to the next round. This could be anywhere within England or at home depends on the draw.
The same team will be picked if they are available for the next round.

Sunday 2nd November 2008
Today we held our 2008 competitors luncheon in the Cranleigh band room; 32 competitors attended to enjoy the dishes which our many ladies had lovingly prepared. The object of this exercise was to celebrate our various successes and disappointments over this year and gird our loins for 2009 the season.

So many and grateful thanks to Carolyn and her many helpers for putting on the bash and to our ladies to supplying the dishes and especially the puddings which we put away in defiance of our collective waist lines.

This year we have had four teams competing in various positions

For Southern Counties (SCPA) div. 3 we have ABC Wasps in 4th position in our first year in this division with 12 games played 4 games for and 6 games against. The final match against Admiral Cunningham was a nail biting affair going down to the wire with two points to win on the final end. Ian’s pointing held up to set the final scene but the two points put slickly in by Jeff took the game. Admiral Cunningham conceded the Home game.

In SCPA division 4 ABC Hornets came 6th with 12 games played 25 points for and 35 against. This was the Hornets first season and a very creditable result. I am delighted that we are able to field 2 teams in the SCPA league.

In the North Down Petanque League (8 teams); ABC Bees came 3rd and our second team ABC Wasps 6th In the End of Season melee at Crondall our Christine Kateley came 4th overall with 4 wins and + 19 points. Congratulations to Chris!!!

All in all a reasonably successful year. ABC is in the scheme of things a good middle ranking club with some 44 members fielding some 33 competitive players, not a tiny rural club by any means. Of course we could and will do better in years to come.

This year we say goodbye to Jeff Fox who has with great enthusiasm run our teams with help from Mike Kateley and Carolyn Tuthill. So many many thanks to Jeff for all his assistance and his continuing support in the forthcoming year.

Anniversary Cup

26 of our hardiest fools played in the Anniversary Cup competition today.
The wind was cold, the sky overcast and we play in drizzled most of the time.
With Paul on his computer and Ian running the event we swiftly got started and we played three rounds in the melee. With the computer sorting out the scores and selecting the teams for the next round we completed the match just before it really rain hard.
It was great to see Lucienne and Geoff attend the match and to present the Cup to the winning couple. Top Lady Sonia, Top Gent Benny.
Hopefully I should get a photo on here soon.
Tomorrow is our end of season Lunch at the Band room hope to see you all there.
