SCPA Div 3. ABC Wasps v Admiral Cunningham

The Wasps travelled back to Fareham Wednesday evening to play their final away game against the Admiral Cunningham.
The night was very cold and everyone was wrapped up well against the 3 degree temperature.
The triples game went all square at one game each, Mike, Christine and Sonia taking their game and Jeff, Ian and Jan just missing out on theirs.
Both teams won one of the doubles leaving Ian and Jeff to finish the decider. We took a quick lead to 9 - 6, then we went off and they came back to 10 - 10 we then took a quick one followed by the final two.
This gave us a 3 - 2 win.
The Cunningham decided to concede their away match against us, making this our last match of the season and also my last match as team captain.
Can I say to all of my teams over the years in both NDL and SCPA thank you for your support. Thank you all for turning out in good and bad weather and travelling miles for a couple of games, winning some and losing others. We now have one team in Div 3 and one in Div 4, I am sure that both teams can now settle down at make 2009 a year for both teams to go up another Div.
Best of luck to you all.
I am still available to play if anyone wants me in their team.

SCPA Div 3 ABC Wasp v Limesdown Marvel

The Wasps travelled down to The Limes at Fareham.
It was a very pleasant morning with loads of Sunshine and the temperature around 12 degrees.
Before the start both teams had a chance to be promoted but both teams require at least a 4 - 1 won.
The Limes won the first two triples games with scores touch and go on both sides.
The Wasps won the next two doubles games meaning neither team could be promoted.
The Limes won the last game to give them the match with a final score of 3 -2.

Wasp Team
Ian and Jeff, Mike and Christine, David and Hazel.

This was probably my last match as Captain, thank you all for a great three years as a team together. Best of luck for next year.

SCPA Div 4. ABC Hornets v Ship Shapes

Well - The Hornets have now completed all their fixtures for this year. Captain was unable to play on Sunday owing to a Ruby Wedding party in Essex - However an intrepid team of players went off to Fareham to play the Ship Shapes at The Admiral Cunningham ( The Ship is still not suitable for them to play at). From the results list I could see that the Ship Shapes were below us in the league and I had great hopes of a victory over them. However, despite their best efforts the Hornets were only able to win one game losing the match 4 - 1! Not their finest hour! I don't know where that puts us in the league but I suspect pretty near the bottom!

Team on Sunday Was - Chris Marsh playing with Ingrid Richards

Benny & Margaretha Goodman

Kath Stebbing and Sue Ross who were the only winners

Triples were Benny, Margaretha & Ingrid
Chris, Sue and Kath

This will be my final Captain's report as, owing to family pressures, I will be unable to Captain the team next year. However, if the Hornets go into next year's league I will be happy to play when I can under new management!!

The team joined me at my home on Saturday 11th October for a "thank you from me" meal when copious amounts of food and drink were consumed. Unfortunately Tony Riches was unwell and unable to attend - all the more for those who did! They are all stars, some more than others! turning out for matches in all weathers. We have met some really nice people and despite our lowly results, I think we have all gained from the experience. Lots of love to all the Hornets from Carolyn xxx

SCPA Div 4. ABC Hornets v Nomads

Hi - Captain of the Hornets here! Good news to report at last - Hornets 3 - Nomads 2. Thanks to a real battle by Tony Riches and Sue Ross who beat their opponents by 13 - 12 after trailing 10 - 12. One triple was won by each team - the winning team for the Hornets was Tony Riches/Sue Ross/Kath Stebbing -
not so good were Margaretha Goodman/Benny Goodman/Carolyn Tuthill. Benny & Marrgaretha went on to win 13 - 4 in the doubles. You will notice that the Captain was in the losing team each game!! She was the weakest link - too much wine in Tuscany I think - Must do better!! Next match - away to the Ship Shapes on October 19th which will be our last game of the season

Players last evening : Hornets - Benny & Margaretha Goodman/Tony Riches/Sue Ross/Kath Stebbing/Carolyn Tuthill

Nomads - Jim Barnett/Dave Spencer/Marion Stanbrook/Margaret Johnson/Sandie Barnett and Vernon Walker

A very friendly match - the rain kept off just about and we had a very nice supper in the pub of sandwiches and soup which went down really well. Nice to see Vernon Walker again. Carolyn
