Boules on the Beach 08

Saturday was a brilliant date, the weather was hot and a little overcast, this was good as it would have been a bit unbearable if we had full sun all day.
34 people played boule and three adults and two children played in the sand.
We had visitors from the Kingsclere, Camelsdale, Adur and ABC.
The fish and chips were delivered on time, just as the tide was making it a little difficult to find a dry bit of sand.
After checking and rechecking the results they were as follows
The only person to will all the games was Carl..he was last years friendliest person!!
Best female Sonia, just pipping Carolyn by one point
This years friendliest person was Sue..This was a close call as there was three other people within a couple of points.

SCPA Div 3. ABC Wasps v Portchester Pentanquers

The Wasps now on a roll with our new Mascot took a drive down to the coast. We arrived at Portchester, it was a glorious evening 28 degrees at 7pm.
We played our first set of doubles and won one lost one.
Into the doubles, Ian and Jeff won 13 - 0, Mike and Christine lost 13 - 10 this left "last again Lipman" and his beautiful wife Hazel to take the last double and give us yet another win.
Roll on the Admiral Cunningham our next opponents.

SCPA Div 4, ABC Hornets v Cobbetts B

Captain's report on our home match against Cobbetts B this evening. A resounding victory for the Hornets at last!! We won the Match 4 - 1 with thanks to my great team of Margaretha, Benny, Tony Riches, Chris Marsh and Ingrid. (I have to add that Chris and I were the weakest link, the one game that we lost was actually a Fanny against Chris & me!! We did slightly redeem ourselves by playing another 'friendly' which we then won - of course!)

Socialboules Melee

Sunday saw members from four clubs, Adur, the Lamb, Camelsdale and Cuckmere Valley plus our own members descend on Kirdford for a social game of boules. This started at 10, we had four games before a long lunch and then a final game after lunch.
The weather was near perfect warm but not to hot.
The final results were.

NDL ABC Wasps v ABC Bees AM. ABC Bees v ABC Wasps PM

It really was a busy day on Saturday.
In the morning The Wasps were at home to The Bees.
The Wasps had 11 players over the three games and it showed in the points. The Bees with 6 players had a great win of 6 -3. But with a few exceptions it was a great morning.
In the afternoon The Bees were at home to The Wasps.
This was a much better result for the Wasps they only played 6 players and the Bees played 6 players this time the Wasps took the match 7 - 2.
A great days boule with a total of 23 of our members playing on one side or the other.
To finish, Mike arrange that we all had a very nice cream tea.
The Wasps gained a couple of points at the end of the day.

SCPA Div 4 ABC Hornets v Shedfield

Once again the Hornets lost 2-3 I am really now resigned to this being our ultimate score for all our remaining matches. Why can we not manage to win just one more game to turn the matches around. An intrepid team made up of Benny & Margaretha, Kath & Joan and Ingrid & Chris Marsh with Sue Ross as an
"Extra" played valiantly against the Shedfield Team. I understand they went into the doubles 2 - 0 which is always a disadvantage. However two games were won in the doubles and the third game I understand was quite a close one. Yours truely (a.k.a. Captain!) was busy attending my grand daughter's first birthday party, so thanks to all who held the fort so gallantly. Next scheduled match - Tuesday 22nd at home against Cobbetts "B" - watch this space!.

SCPA Div 3. ABC Wasps v Adur Leisure

Thursday evening brought our guests up from Worthing. We all arrived early for the match so it had got underway by 7.15.
Jeff, Ian and Christine finished off the first triples quite quickly 13 - 3.
David, Hazel and Mike had dropped behind in their but made a great recovery to finish 13 - 10.
That gave us a good 2 - 0 lead, only need one more game for the match.
Mike and Christine lost the first doubles, Jeff and Ian won the second.
This left David and Hazel still playing, which isn't unusual as they like to take their time and make the most of the evening. Finally winning 13 - 6.
A very good total of 4 - 1 on the evening.
This was the third win in a row after a terrible start to the season. We put this down to the arrival of our new mascot and a little change in our line up.

SCPA. ABC Wasps v Portchester Petanquers

The Wasps were host to Portchester on Thursday evening. Portchester have not been beaten this season so we had a hard hill to climb.
We won one triple and lost one.
In the doubles, Mike and Christine had a great score with a 13 - 1 win, followed by Jeff and Ian with a 13 - 10 win. David and Hazel 's fight back wasn't quite good enough losing 13 - 8.
A win for us and a poor result for Portchester.
