Ian's answer to Gill's letter

Dear Gill & all at Kingsclere,
I am sure all our ABC Club members will be sorry to receive your sad tidings. We shall be happy to see you at Kirdford at any time you feel inclined to come this way and have enjoyed playing against you these last few years. Thank you kindly for your gracious remarks about ABC. Please let Jeff Fox, Team Captain or myself as know in advance if possible.
Regards and Bon Chance!!
Ian Fox

Letter received from Gill of Kingsclere Bugs

Good morning to all in the NDL

I am sorry to have to write this email to you all but unfortunately the time has come for Kingsclere Bugs not only to drop out of the NDL League but to disband as a petanque club, with immediate effect.

I would have preferred to have been able to notify you all of our position before the start of this year's season but we have only just received a very unexpected resignation from a key player and with one other member spending a large proportion of the summer overseas we are down to only seven players. These seven players are all very enthusiastic but when you take into account their ages and health, getting a team together 14 times this year is going to be pretty much unattainable.

We will, just as a group, be getting together on a completely informal basis for a game or two up at the Fieldgate as and when possible.

We have all thoroughly enjoyed playing in the league over the past years and the friendship of everyone we have met, we would hate to lose touch completely.

We played our last match against Kirdford yesterday and had a really lovely afternoon, as we always do when there. I would just like it to be known that their, venue, friendship and hospitality are second to none and we cannot think of a better setting in the UK to enjoy a game of boules. (even though we only won one game - I can still say this!)

We would love to be notified of any SOCIAL games that may be held this year - every effort will be made to attend, even if we have to get an extra player off the street as it were.

Again, please accept our sincere apologies and hope to meet up with you at other events.

Kind regards
Gill Sendall

Our Charity Day. "Riding for the disables"

Saturday saw our charity day nearly postponed, the weather was terrible cold wind and heavy rain. 14 stalwarts turned up for the melee, it turned out quite well, although a little chilly it stayed dry and we had 3 games before lunch. The Bring and buy, raffle and the prize melee are now to run over the next couple of weeks. This will enable our charity "Riding for the disabled" to get a fair crack of the whip and increase the total which we can give them. So don't forget to grab your tickets from the girls £1 a strip, that's the raffle tickets not the girls.
