Club training

The club will be starting our training session this Saturday 2nd Feb. 10am start.
We hope to practice our shooting and pointing to brush off the rust we have gained over the winter. Also we will be looking for names to form our North Downs League and SCPA 6 a side teams for this season. Please let Jeff know whether you want to play in both leagues or one league or none.

Boules on the Beach, mind the wood

Timber as far as the eye can see..please watch out for the splinters when we have boules on the beach. The beach is covered with tons of wood from the sunken cargo ship.
The timber is all over the section of beach we use. In places the wood is over eight feet deep all along the high water line, from Littleampton to Brighton

Now don't you complain it is cold

The following photo's were sent by Dan from the Chicago Club. This was there first meeting of the New Year. Notice the patented "boule warmer"

Marlene's Farewell

On Saturday 19th Jan. We held our normal boules session but after the first game we made our way back into the pub. This was our farewell to Marlene, the staff arranged the glasses and we supplied the bubbly.

Joan gave a warm speech on our behalf before handing over the cards and presents.

The Club arranged to have a necklace made by one of our local jewelers. As you can see from the photo's it is in the shape of a silver boule with a 9ct gold Bee as our emblem. On the reverse inscribed is Marlene's name.

Also a print showing a group of early boulist, I am sure that must be Mike

The photo's where provided by Jeff and Peter R.

Wed 9th Jan

Today was a great day, the sun came out and the wind and rain went away.
Pity that so few players turned up for the afternoon session, lot of reports that due to the road being closed at the Onslow Arms people couldn't find their way!!
I have been asked to mention the name of those who did come and play.
Val, Tony F. Tony R. George and Jeff
Hopefully the bridge will be open for Saturday.

First Saturday of the year

26 hearty soles turned up for the first main club day of 2008.
It was a chilly day but the rain held off until after lunch. We had 3 full games before lunch and everyone played very well.
For the third year running Jeff managed to get fannied on the first day of the year. He reckons it is just a wake up call to get himself going for the rest of the year (also it may be due to too much Christmas pud)

Just to remind all of the club, that we will be presenting Marlene with her going away present on Jan 19th, the committee hope that we will have a good turn out from our members to say good bye to our lovely landlady.

Happy New Year

Today was the first boule day of the new year. With a very cold biting wind 12 of us took part in a couple of very cold games of boule.
Even so the standard of play was good, hindered by loads of clothes and most of us had our gloves on. Shooting was boule to boule otherwise with the hard ground everything flew straight over.
Saturday will be our first main club day, come on everyone lets get started in the New Year.
