Betty's Plate

Well it was WET, WET and then it was WET again. But as per usual there were 26 of us playing for the plate. Do to the weather we limited it to a 3 game melee. Even thou most people where dressed in water proofs, water running down their necks and stomping throw mud and puddles the standard of play was very impressive.
At the end of the day 6 people had three wins, David Lipman had +14, Carolyn Tuthill had +15 and the Winner with +16 was Peter Rauch. The plate was presented by Kath.
May I say thanks to everyone taking part it was a great competition.
I will add the photo's later, trying to dry out the camera

ABC Wasps v Wanderers (SCPA 6 aside)

The Wasps had to travel all the way to Southampton on Wednesday, through very, very heavy rain and visibility down to nothing.
Just as we arrived the clouds parted and the sun shone down on the worst terrain we have seen since the Dove. Even after half an hour practice just tossing the boule in the right direction was an achievement. But finally skill or should I say luck ran our way finishing 5 - 0 winners on the night

Boules on the Beach

Finally after lots of organising, checking the tides and asking for good weather it came.

Boules on the Beach

On an overcast Saturday morning just over 58 players and 5 or 6 spectators descended on Goring beach. They were members from Adur PC, Amities BC, Crondall PC, Kingsclere PC and a large selection of family and friends who had not played before.

Promptly at 9. 30 the tide took away the water (? where does it all go), leaving us with large stretches of wet becoming damp sand. The draw was made and the teams went to find the sections of sand that they would be using.

After the first games, orders where taken for fish and chips. Adequate supplies of wine, beer and soft drinks where available to all at no extra cost.

The sun made an appearance during the 2nd and 3rd games and the wind increased, this caused some concern especially to those who had not added the factor 30 sun lotion.

After the 4th game, the fish and chips came hot from the chippy and everyone tucked in, and the first shower gave is all a quick soaking.

After lunch somehow the water had all returned and it was time for the prize giving.

Highest male and overall winner with 4 wins and +29 was Tony Riches from ABC, Highest female was Barbara from Adur even with a broken wrist and playing with her left hand she won 4 games with + 24 . Our most friendliest play was Carl a new comer having never play before to
day.

From Jeff

Our total profit was £107.20 which will go towards the clubs SCPA 6 a side teams sandwiches. A great big thank-you to all who came and took part. Also thanks to everyone who was kind enought to phone and email to say that they had enjoyed the day.. Roll on 08...

Boules on the Beach

Well its nearly time, this Saturday we will be meeting down on the sands at Goring, hopefully the tide will be out or going out. There should be enough time for 3 maybe 4 games before the tide comes back in. Fish and chip orders will be taken and collected just in time for the end of the last game.
The numbers attending are now well over 40, so you will all be looking for a nice dry piece of sand.
Do not forget to wash your boules at the end of the day.

Wasps triumph over the Racers

Tuesday night was a glorious summers evening, warm with clear sky's, just right for a glass of wine and an evenings boule.
Well forget that, its time we went to thrash the Racers.

The Racing Club Racers
Den, Dave, Chris, Pat, Kerry,

The ABC Wasps
Jeff , David , Ian, Mike, Hazel, Kath.

We finished the triples at a fair pace winning both games, 13 - 0 and 13 - 7.
The doubles lasted some time we nearly had to have cold chips.
The Wasp won all three games giving us the first white wash of the year.
Also with 5 points plus 1 for winning the match this took us off of the bottom and we are now joint third with 1 game in hand. Our next match is away to the Wanderers down in Southampton.

Well done team.
