North Downs League Wasps v Camelsdale

The Wasps where at home on Thursday evening against Camelsdale Humps. The weather during the first 2 rounds was lovely bright sunny skies and a warm 20+ degrees. The last rounds of games was spoilt because our floodlights failed, and that the last games had to be cut short as it was to dark to see the positions of the boules and jack. Looks like I shall have to fix the fault quickly before our next matches

After some very closely fought matches The Wasps came out ahead
winning 8 - 1. This was The Wasps first win this season, but not the last.

Teams .
The Wasps. Jeff, Sue, Paul, Melanie, Chris and Mureil

The Humps. Don, Eric,Marie, Bill, Peter M, Peter T and Jan.

Seagull nicks the boule

following in this weeks Sunday Mirrior:

A seagull halted an international boules match by stealing the jack.
Teams from the two towns of Totnes in Devon and Vire in Normandy, France, were astonished when the bird flew off with the bright red ball, which boulers aim at and dropped it in the nearby reed beds.
Luckily the british team had a spare, and play resumed on the island of Vire in the River Dart .
An spokesman claimed the seagull must have been French.

SCPA 6 a side league Wasps v Nomads

The Wasps played the Nomads on Wednesday evening, with all the gods on our side the weather remaind dry between the start and just before the end of the matches.
After the 4 games the score was 2 - 2, with the last game tied at 8 all. The Nomads had a break through giving them a quick 3 points, the game struggled on for another couple of ends before the Nomads sealed the game and the match.
We then had a great meal supplied by the home team before we all headed home in the rain.
Thanks Nomads, a lovely night, pity someone had to win.

Report on Jersey Open Part 1

The weekend started very well, we met up at the airport, checked in and departed all on time.

It was noted that Sue and Ingrid where chatting up some pilot about the use of a blueberry or was it a blackberry, I thought it was Dan who always had a black berry on his head.

The coach was already to take us to the Hotel and we all where given the correct rooms with not to much hassle.
The Avis rep arrived on time, we had ordered 8 cars in January but he had only brought 1. After much hot air and telephone calls it was decided to take all the drivers to the Avis depot and they would sort out the cars..Dave the manager really pulled out all the stops and provided most the groups with brand new cars having only 14 to 16 miles on the clock and a lot of additional staff to make sure the turn over was carried out at top speed.
Our first part of the weekend was the "Vin d'honneur" at the Jersey club on the Friday evening, this consist of cheese and wine, a time to meet all our old friends and have a little practice on the piste.
This was followed by the draw, 112 teams went into the hat and all where drawn into groups of
four for the mornings league matches. This consisted of teams from Jersey PC, Carrefour PC, Guernsey, France, and 20 English clubs.

We had 13 teams from our club.

Saturday saw the start of the competition, the weather was warm with a cool breeze, (a few of us needed attention in the evening for a spot of sun burn).

Peter Bastion getting everyone started

As the tales came in of great games, and hard luck stories the morning seemed to past at a tremendous rate and it was soon lunch time all of us having played three games some with better success than others. It was with intrepidation we waited for the results to be calculated and the draw for the afternoons games to be posted.

During lunch Ingrid was interview by Jersey radio, as a representative of the UK teams maybe they where looking for the German team.

Ray and Val having won all three games went into the Main competition, Benny and Margartha and Peter and Mavis went into the Plate the rest where spread out through the 1st and 2nd Consolage's.

George and Dorothty take a good look

Lucienne points and Geoff looks to see how close it is.

Dan and Joan do the same as above

To be continued...
