Wasps start their league season

On Tuesday the Wasps started off their season at Racing Club Racers at Basingstoke and lost 8 - 1, Ian said that they just could not get to terms with the very fast conditions and fine grit.
Team. Ian, Hazel, Val, Frank, Peter, Chris

On Wednesday the Wasps were at it again, this time they put up a very hard fight against Bordon, (last years runners up). After losing our first three games of the evening we really dug in and took the next two games out of three, The final three games where make or break, Ian and Sonia played like demons and took their game 13 - 0, Dan and Barbara just lost at the last end 13 - 10. Jeff and Joan finally manages to beat the two young lads, those with the superb manners and the love of game, I think that is the first time they have lost on our terrain.
We wish them all the best for the English selections this weekend.

The Wasps.
Dan, Sonia, Jeff, Ian, Joan, Barbara

We ended up losing 5 - 4 but everyone enjoyed a very good evenings play.

ABC Charity Day

Saturday was our Charity Day in aid of The Samaritan.
All proceeds from the day, (entrance fees, raffle, bring and buy and any other reason to take money from everyone) went to the charity. David gave a small speech on the running of the Samaritans and their aims, he then ran the day like a pro and we manage to wheedle £201.00 out of our members.
We had 36 members and 2 guests and played three games before lunch.

Our guests Lin and Bryn from the Samaritans organisation with David and Hazel.

They came to play and to thank us all for the donations that we had collected.
The weather again was hot and sunny so we all had lunch under the shades in the garden.

Some of the prizes donated for the raffle. Thanks to Tim from the paper shop for the Easter egg and everyone else for their prizes.

A collection of the soft toys donated by George along with the other bring and buy bits and pieces

Paul was there with his mates, must have brought them back from New Zealand, are they registered to play.

Before the main event we had an hours training, it was geared towards those members who will be going to the Jersey open, getting the pairs together, a little bit of training, followed by a few basis rules and tactics, followed by a bit more training, then Christine advised us all on what we could or could not take on the plane and how much luggage we could carry.
29 of us will be flying away on Friday 4th May, good luck to all those taking part.

Bee's Win their first league game

It was a good start to the North Downs league season for the Bees. They won their first game against the Crondall Lions 5 games to 4. That gives them a six point start to the season.
Well done the Bees

Wednesday Afternoon

Once again the weather was warm and sunny, we seem to have missed spring this year.
There were 26 of us playing this afternoon, it wasn't that long ago that 26 was a good number for our main boules day.
One of my spy's informed me that Ingrid is trying to get nearer the jack by throwing the boule first and then the jack..now now thats not on.
Spy number two informed me that if Magaretha's boule goes out she picks it up and tries to use it again...no no..
Keep your feet in the circle, stay 2mt from the jack and not behind it,
If any of you would like to pass on any snippets I will post them here anonymously and I won't even add your names.
Don't forget the Charity Match Saturday bring your raffle prizes and your money all proceeds to the Samaritans. Minimum entry fee £1.
One more thing to remember, if you double click on the photos on this site they will become full page not always a good sight.

We had 27 people playing boule this morning, it was good to see Grace, Neville, Sonia and Shamoine out and about. A couple of people on holiday from Scotland came over and said they liked the game, we put them on to their national HQ.

Wednesday Afternoon

Well it's Wednesday again, the numbers are up again 29 players today, the weather was really very good lovely hot sun, David and Hazel brought two of their friends along today just to give them a feel of our tremendous game. Marline (our pubs famous landlady) has just been sorting out the food for the first of our league games and also one of our corporate days, really looks after us boulist.
For those of you who do no know our club I have added a couple of photos of the Pub and the piste. Sorry Chris is still dancing after his success's on Monday.
We have scven pistes at the moment, but with the help from the brewery, we hope to extend out terrain to give us an extra 3 or 4 pistes so that we can hold our own open doubles competitions.

Report of the Crondall open doubles competition

Here are the fourteen club members who took part in the Crondall Open.

Forty two teams from all over the south of England took part in the Crondall open on a lovely warm Monday, just enough cloud cover to stop getting to much sun.

We played 3 games in the morning then had lunch at the on site Italian restaurant.

Kath and Sue really liked the ice cream and chocolate cake.

After all the eating it was back to playing boules. We had a further two games in the afternoon, which finished at about 5.

Carolyn swears that the jack is behind her boule

Well then came the prize giving..forget about the main winners, that was Graham and David from Adur.

Val and Dorothy won the friendliest pairs.

Closely followed by Jeff and Jan

Dan and Joan won the third group

The best performance of the day was Ingrid and Chris with 3 wins..

I am sure Ingrid is trying to show Chris the latest WI line dance

Well that was that, the next open for us will be at Adur on the 22nd Apr, I think that we all can do with a bit of practice against better class players.

NB it was noted that many people still break the rules about keeping both feet inside the circle

Saturday at Kirdford

Even though it was Easter Saturday and the weather was overwelming, we still managed to bring out 25 members for about four games before lunch
